Since 2000, Pantone has been announcing the Pantone color of the years. Personally, I find it intriguing and inspiring. And yesterday, Pantone represents “Very Peri” as Pantone Color Of The Year 2022.

PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, the happiest and warmest of all the blue hues introduces an empowering mix of newness.

WHAT COLOR IS THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2022, VERY PERI?

I guess this is the most riveting question on this subject. Pantone 17-3938, otherwise known as Very Peri color, is a vibrant periwinkle blue hue with a vivified violet-red undertone, merges the consistent and peaceful blue with the confident and enthusiastic red.

THE STORY OF PANTONE

Before knowing its story, it’s better to know Pantone means “all colors,” combining pan and tone.

The first color matching system developer Pantone.

Before Pantone, every printing company had its color guide, and therefore let’s say “green” was printed differently depending on how each ink company interpreted that color’s look. As a result, some green was shadier than others; some were more yellowish, and some were close to the blue. And it was never just what the designer had in mind. There was no collaboration on this.

Pantone saw the gap and started to work on this subject. Then, In 1963, Pantone developed the first color matching system. Appreciations to this system, graphic designers can see clearly what “green” would look like on paper and provide the printer with the Pantone number to ensure they got what they wanted.

WHAT’S THE PANTONE COLOR FOR 2021?

As in previous years, last year, Pantone announced that it had chosen two colors of the year for 2021. They were “PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray” plus “PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating,” a combination of dull, familiar gray and the bright yellow of lemon skin. The company is illustrated as a marriage of color, conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is enduring and uplifting.

Specifically, it was a choice for the pre-pandemic levels, the past year of quarantine. When we had to insulate ourselves from the outside world and curl up in monochrome blankets at our home, time in which new normal is created, and lastly, time in which it revealed that the world would never be the same.
